So many memorable fantasy settings seem to revolve around a particularly characterful city. New Crobuzon, Camorr, Chasm City, London in the Mortal Engines quartet... What is it about these places that makes them so appealing and evocative as settings, and what is the driving force that fuels urban fantasy as a genre? This is also a chance to discuss the secondary notion of particularly interesting and characterful settings in general be they urban or not.
